Eveready stock jumps 7% on RBI move allowing 49% stake for foreign investors

Shares of Eveready IndustriesBSE 3.30 % rose by 7 per cent today after the Reserve Bank allowed foreign investors to hold up to 49 per cent stake in the company.

The stock gained 6.99 per cent to Rs 300 at BSE. On NSE, it went up by 6.39 per cent to Rs 298.

"Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs)/Registered Foreign Portfolios Investors (FPIs) can now invest up to 49 per cent of the paid up capital of Eveready Industries India Ltd under the Portfolio Investment Scheme.

Sensex ends 247 points down a day ahead of rate review, Nifty @ 7,796

A day ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's money policy review on Tuesday, the domestic stock market tanked after remaining rangebound through the day. Weakness in European markets in early trade triggered the crash.

The S&P BSE Sensex crashed 246 points, or 0.95 per cent, lower at 25,616.84 while the 50-share Nifty50 lost 72.80 points, or 0.95 per cent, to close at 7,795.70. The sentiment, though, was negative with 24 of the 30 Sensex stocks closing the day with losses.

Rupee trades higher against US dollar By MarketMagnify

Snapping a four-day losing streak, the rupee rose 5 paise to 66.11 against the US dollar on Monday morning.

Hit by month-end dollar demand from importers, the domestic currency had fallen by 18 paise against the greenback to settle at 66.16 on Thursday. The currency market was closed on Friday on account of Bakri-Id.
"The rupee has been ruling in the 65.50-66.75 range for the last couple of weeks.

A gap down open marked last day’s session and Nifty future posted the low of 7713.95 in the opening phase itself. Nifty to fall at open as China PMI sinks to over 6-year low

Indian equities are set to start off on a weak note, a day after they plunged in a late move that saw a 2 percent cut on benchmark indexes. This morning, Asian markets were already trading weak early tracking Wall Street's losses overnight, but the release of the China Caixin Flash PMI, which showed output had sunk to a six-year low, knocked off equities further. In Singapore, the SGX Nifty fell 0.7 percent, or 55 points, to 7,718. Yesterday, the Nifty swung off a top of 8,000 to end close to 7,800, throwing up multiple technical indicators that the bout of volatility seen recently hasn't ended yet.

Rupee falls for third consecutive session against US dollar By MarketMagnify

Nifty may shrug off Fed news and open mildly higher

The India equity market may shrug off the negative news from Fed and open mildly higher. The market indicator SGX Nifty too is trading in the green with 23 points up at around 7963 around 7.30 am in the morning. The market was closed for trading on Thursday. Alibaba Shares Could Fall Another 50%

Shares in Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, which recently slipped below their initial offering price after having rocketed 75 per cent in their first two months of trading, could lose another 50 per cent of their value, Barron's said in the cover story of its September 14 issue.

The reasons the weekly financial newspaper gave for the dour outlook: China's struggling economy, increasing competition in e-commerce and more scrutiny of the company's culture and governance.

Alibaba spokesman Bob Christie said the article "contains factual inaccuracies and selective use of information, and the conclusions the reporter draws are misleading". The company has posted on the internet a letter to Barron's editor complaining about the story.

The company runs two big retail websites and recently warned of lower-than-expected transaction volumes, after having reported that volume growth in the June quarter declined to 34 per cent from the 50 per cent-plus rates of the past.

Benchmark indices have extended gains and are trading near day’s high on the back of buying demand among financials, metal realty and power sectors.

Nifty eyes 7800 in start to crucial Fed week

Indian equities may be off to a positive start but will likely tread water for the early part of the day as markets kick off an extremely crucial week -- one in which the Federal Reserve is likely to consider for the first time in nine years whether to increase interest rates. Key Asian markets were trading mixed with Hong Kong leading with gains of 1 percent while Nikkei was down the most at -0.3 percent. In Singapore, SGX Nifty was trading marginally above 7,800, up 0.3 percent. Traders say the market's movement this week, especially on Friday, will be crucial as the months-long uncertainty over the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision will come to an end. The odds of the Fed hiking rates while being even earlier have somewhat reduced following recent volatility in global equity and currency markets, experts say, but they add that even if a rate hike does take, it could be priced in.

Sensex trims gains, up 100 points; Nifty tests 7,800

The S&P BSE Sensex trimmed gains after rallying over 250 points in opening trade on Friday ahead of the July factory output numbers scheduled for release later in the day.

The 50-share Nifty barometer was testing its crucial psychological level of 7,800.

The gains on the benchamrk index were led by index heavyweights such as Infosys, HDFC Bank, SBI and ITCBSE 0.46 %.

Overall, the market breadth remained positive, with seven out of every 10 BSE stocks trading in green.

Market Rebounds With Sensex up by 200 Points, Nifty Above 7800

The market in the early trade showed signs of recovery with Sensex rising up by 194.75 points trading at 25816.92.

Nifty, on the other hand, climbed up by 56.75 points trading at 7844.85. 

Sectors that performed as per the markets sentiments were technology, healthcare, oil, selective banking and financial stocks.

SBI, Axis Bank, ONGC, Vedanta, M&M and YES Bank topped the buying list with a marginal increase of 1-2 percent. However, GAIL, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, Bosch and BHEL traded in red.

The Indian rupee gained in early trade today. It opened higher by 9 paise at 66.34 per dollar against 66.43 yesterday.

Global cues mixed, but positive Nifty opening seen

The Indian equity market is expected to open in the green on a positive global backdrop. The SGX Nifty, an indicator of the market opening, was trading at 7842.00, up 21.50 points at 7:40. Back home, a late rally helped Dalal Street with the Nifty recovering over 150 points from the day's low to end with marginal losses. Globally, Asian markets traded lower in early trade as investors eye increased uncertainty heading into the US Federal Reserve's meeting next week. The Fed is widely expected to raise its near-zero interest rate as early as next week amid improving economic fundamentals in the US. But an abrupt devaluation of the yuan by Chinese authorities in August and renewed turmoil in global markets has had some market watchers paring back their forecasts.

Sensex ends 402 points higher, Nifty tops 7,800

Continuing with its winning streak for the second straight session, the 30-share BSE Sensex surged by 401.71 points, or 1.59 per cent, to close at 25,719.58 following an upswing in Asian markets and an overnight rally in the US market .

Other Asian markets closed higher on expectations that China would announce more stimulus to support the economy after the August trade data print came in weak.

The 50-share barometer, Nifty, closed at 7,818.60, up 130.35 points, or 1.70 per cent. CNX Bank Nifty surged over 200 points.

Rupee opens higher at 66.38 per dollar, gains 17 paise

The Indian rupee advanced further in early trade on Wednesday. It has opened higher by 17 paise at 66.38 per dollar against previous close of 66.55. NS Venkatesh of IDBI Bank said, "The rupee strengthened against the USD after touching an intra-day high of 66.80/dollar yesterday. We saw selling by custodial banks and some buying from PSBs to meet the oil demand."

Market Crashes: Sensex ends below 25000

The Sensex ended at 15-month low while Nifty was at 14-month low at closing. The 30-share index ended down 308.09 points or 1.2 percent at 24893.81, and the 50-share index slipped 96.25 points or 1.3 percent at 7558.80. The Nifty has lost 17 percent from its highest level in 2015 and the Bank Nifty lost nearly 25 percent. The band-aids from the 2008 financial crisis are coming off and the wounds haven't really healed, says Shankar Sharma of First Global. However he does add that macro-economic fundamentals remain strong.

Strong support for Nifty at 7800

Despite the heavy sell-off seen yesterday with the 30-share BSE Sensex crashing 586.65 points to 25,696.44, and the 50-share NSE Nifty closing below the 7800-mark, losing 185.45 points to 7785.85, Sudarshan Sukhani says it may not be a good morning for the bears. He says 7800 is a big support for the Nifty. He is mildly bullish on the day, in fact the next couple of days.

Nifty September futures

Nifty September 2015 futures were at 7817.45, a premium of 25.60 points over spot closing of 7791.85. Nifty August 2015 futures were at 7787.30, a discount of 4.55 points from spot closing of 7791.85. Turnover on NSE's futures & options (F&O) segment declined to Rs 4.45 lakh crore lakh crore from turnover of Rs 4.93 lakh crore registered yesterday, 25 August 2015.

Reliance Industries August 2015 futures were at 851.50, at a slight discount compared with spot closing of 851.80.

State Bank of India (SBI) August 2015 futures were at 246, near spot closing of 245.75.

HDFC Bank August 2015 futures were at 1010.50, at a slight discount compared with spot closing of 1012.50.

In the spot market, the 50-unit CNX Nifty fell 88.85 points or 1.13% to settle at 7,791.85, its lowest closing level since 17 October 2014.
